The Pericardium and Triple Burner In & Out of Balance
Together, the Pericardium and Triple Burner bestow intuition when relating with other people, allowing for ease of communication and appropriate degrees of warmth. The word “appropriately” came up a lot in the last post—as discussed in What are the Five Elements?, propriety is considered one of the virtues of the Fire Element. This does not necessarily mean being polite or reserved; in fact, it may mean cracking a joke when a situation calls for comic relief.
Each element has an energy movement pattern associated with it (the energy of Wood pushes up and out). The energy of Fire rises and falls as indicated by the natural highs and lows many of us experience, or periods of sadness and joy. The trouble comes when we become stuck in a low (depression) or on a high (mania), or the valleys become very deep and the peaks very steep. It is important to find a range and frequency of highs and lows that allows us sufficient stability.
